Pets have always been the best companions. Unfortunately not every animal has a home or someone to care for them.. That is why every April 11 is dedicated to give awareness to  those pets who may be getting neglected, and to celebrate our own furry friends. Happy National Pet Day!

According to one of the founders of National Pet Day Colleen Paige , “ I believe all animals are sentient beings that deserve our love and compassion…even not-so-cuddly animals like reptiles and rats. No animal should ever have to suffer, especially at the hand of humans” (cbslocal.com).

“Over the past 10 years, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has been a partner in research to determine the physical and mental benefits of having a pet. It turns out that not only can pets steal our hearts, but they also contribute to overall cardiovascular health by lowering cortisol, cholesterol, and blood pressure levels” (nationaltoday.com).

There are plenty of ways anyone can celebrate National Pet Day. Donate food , blankets , toys to the SolanoSPCA in Vacaville or Animal Shelter in Fairfield,  or even volunteer to care for a friend’s pets.

If you ever plan on getting a pet, it is always best to adopt an animal in need of a home .

Spend time with your very own furry buddies and play with them , buy them new toys or special treats, and celebrate National Pet Day with them.
