A great man once said, “Buddy the Elf, what’s your favorite color?”

That great man was hung up on immediately, but maybe on December 18, you won’t be. That day is designated as Answer the Phone like Buddy the Elf Day, which is a pretty self-explanatory name. If you’re being called by someone, you have to answer it like the main character played by Will Ferrell from the classic Christmas movie, Elf: “(Insert your name) the Elf, what’s your favorite color?”

I don’t know about you, but Elf is my favorite Christmas movie because of the humor and memorable lines, such as the topic of discussion. Elf came out in 2003 and this holiday began being observed in 2008. It took five years to find the perfect line to make an International Day of. Seventeen years after the movie was released, the choice of this iconic line was probably one of the best, although I do have to wonder if there’s a “Make Buddy the Elf’s Spaghetti Day,” because I’m sure I’m not the only one who wants to try that sugary abomination.

December 18, though, is your chance to make sure to answer your phone calls with the line for comedy gold and holiday cheer. An alternative, if you’re like me and don’t have many phone calls to answer, is to watch Elf to get in the holiday spirit.
