President Theodore Roosevelt was born on October 27, and in his honor, Navy Day is celebrated on that day as well. “Navy Day was originally sponsored by the Navy League 1922. Navy Day is designed to give recognition to the naval service. The Navy League of New York proposed that the official observance be on 27 October in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt” (Military.com). President Roosevelt was president from a former Assistant Secretary of the Navy and served as President of the United States from 1901-1909.

Navy  Day is a day for remembering and honoring those who are in the navy and those who have served in the Navy. This specific day was is specifically important to the Navy because of how President Roosevelt affected the Navy, building up power and strength.

Today in the U.S. there are 40 naval bases around the country and the United States has the world’s largest naval station in Norfolk, Virginia. The U.S. Navy is considered th strongest in the world.

It is very important that we remember and celebrate the Navy and Navy day is a perfect opportunity for that.
