Mystery readers can enjoy a week of “who-done-it” entertainment during Mystery Series Week from October 4 – 10. But, when and how this intriguing event started is really no puzzle.

Mystery Series Week started back in 2011. Purple Moon Press, a small publishing company,

created the annual event, which has been held in the first full week of October for ten years.  People, young and old, read classic authors from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie as well as many contemporary mystery writers, like Patricia Cornwall and Jo Nesbo.

Youths can read mystery series aimed at children from 9 to 14, series like Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, A-Z Mysteries and others.

Not a big reader? Mystery lovers can also opt to watch their favorite TV shows based on books like Sherlock, Elementary, Karen Sisco, Justified, Rizzoli & Isles, Longmire, and ABC Mysteries.

During this week, there’s also a social media conversation called #mystery series week.

What makes reading mysteries so appealing?  It is easy to become quickly hooked by complex characters or to find details of a backstory that builds the plot. Before they know it, readers are led to surprises along the way to a surprising climax at the end… or perhaps they discover it along the way. The suspense is the whole point of reading a mystery!

Mystery Series Week is truly a thrilling way to enjoy good books that keep you in suspense and maybe even experience a few spine-chilling thrills along the way!
