Childhood Cancer Awarness Month offers focus to the cause.

Since 2010, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month has been in September, proclaimed by President Barack Obama. It brings awareness to the variety of childhood cancers and it is symbolized by a golden ribbon.

The most common form of childhood cancer is Leukemia, a cancer in the bone marrow and blood. Although there are different types of leukemia, the most common ones in children are lymphocytic leukemia and acute myeloid leukemia. Leukemia can affect children in various forms.

Some cancers, like the brain and spinal variety, are caused by tumors. Other common childhood cancers are Neuroblastoma, Wilms tumor, Lymphoma, Rhabdomyosarcoma, and Retinoblastoma.

While there is no cure for cancer yet, some do respond to chemotherapy. In an effort to find cancer cures, there are fundraisers and organizations all over the world, often held in September. This year’s biggest supporter is the Gold Awareness Project, created by CAC2 to increase awareness to people by giving out ideas on how everyone can participate.
