Welding is an elective at Armijo High School. It’s focused on joining materials, like metal. Many people enjoy this class because the get to make cool projects. However, you have to be aware and have caution in this class.

The class has lots of dangers and requires lots of focus. Students who are distracted or not following instructions risk injury from materials or fire. Those who do not use the proper equipment can end up damaging their eyes. Common tools used are safety goggles, chipping hammer, and wire brushes.

Anyone from freshman year to senior year can take welding. Students in welding basically have projects that they create and then they get to keep the things that they make in class.

Welding is useful for several careers, such as welding technicians, nuclear industry welders, and military support welders. Taking welding in high school introduces students to the opportunities for the rest of a student’s life. “The sky’s the limit,’’ said teacher Mr. Harry Toebe.
