Youth Commissioners Help Make Local Coat and Toy Drive a Big Success
On Saturday and Sunday, December 8 and 9, Youth Commissioners volunteered at the
annual Coat and Toy Drive at the Solano Town Center mall. The Fairfield Community
Service Foundation coordinated the annual event, to provide local children with jackets
and gifts to help make this holiday season special for children in need. To help bring
attention to the event, KUIC 95.3 radio, a SWAT truck, and local firefighters came and
set up in front of Macy’s. Visitors to the mall were asked to donate new or lightly used
coats, as well as toys, focusing on children from 4 to 15 years old.
Hundreds of coats and toys were collected, and all items will be donated to the children
who participate in the Fun on the Run program. Fun on the Run is a successful program
that goes directly to low-income neighborhoods in Fairfield and provides sports and
educational opportunities to children who want to participate. Throughout the school
year and during the summer, Fun on the Run organizes fun activities and helps keep
kids out of trouble.
On Saturday, December 21, Youth Commissioners will host a Teen Basketball Clinic on
from 5 to 7 pm at Solano Community College. The event will be open to all teenagers in
the community who would like to play and receive basketball tips from skilled coaches
and physical trainers.
