CD Review: Sweetener | Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande released her new CD Sweetener earlier this year and, earlier this month, she dropped a brand new single, “Thank U, Next.” Both of these pieces have been hits this year and continue to soar in sales.
Sweetener is the pop singer’s third #1 album on the Billboard 200 chart. This 15-song album sends the message to her audience about finding the good things even in the darkest times. This album was released a year after a terrorist bombing took place at her Manchester concert, leaving several people killed. Grande utilizes her lyrics in Sweetener to explain the struggles she has faced and how she overcame them, influencing others to do the same. In the final song in her album, “Get Well Soon,” Grande leaves 22 seconds of silence in the song as a tribute the 22 lives lost at the Manchester bombing.
“Because I was in a really bad place mentally, I’ve always had anxiety, I’ve had anxiety for years. But when I got home from tour it reached a very different, intense peak. I have to write about it and make it into music, and it healed me” Grande told Cosmopolitan Magazine. She believes that “Get Well Soon” is one of the most important songs she’ll ever write.
“Thank U, Next,” her most recent song, had the biggest streaming debut for a female artist ever. In addition, this song is the third biggest streaming debut of 2018. Even with the hardships that Grande has endured, her career carries on strong.
