Movie Review: Bohemian Rhapsody
Queen. When you hear that, what do you think? Do you think of a ruler of a kingdom?
A common title from “Stan Twitter”?
Or the iconic rock band that dominated the charts in the 70s and all the way until the late 80s?
That’s what movie producer Bryan Singer and Robert De Niro thought. The two got together with a few other producers and created the movie we know as Bohemian Rhapsody.
To the eyes of this viewer, the movie was everything and more, but from a critic’s standpoint, it could have been more historically accurate. It was definitely more for the people than the critics.
Other than the issues with historical accuracy, the actors did an amazing job and, most notably, Rami Malek was incredible and captured Freddie Mercury in a way I don’t feel any mainstream actor could. He had the voice, attitude, and posture.
Another reason the movie didn’t sit well with critics is that they expected some deep dark secrets to be revealed about the band and Freddie. In actuality, the movie explained how the band came together and found the iconic sound that we have all grown to know and love. They focused on Freddie’s family life and gave insight on the band’s interactions and personal lives, not just Freddie’s.
All in all, the movie is about a band of “misfits” grown to be loved by other misfits. It was, ultimately, astounding and it’s a must watch! If you want to see a movie that talks about one of the most influential rock legends ever, Bohemian Rhapsody is the one to see! It is expected to be in theaters at least through November 18 and is scheduled to be available on DVD in January.
