Math Steeplechase Competition Results
The Math Steeplechase took place on October 9 at Solano Community College (Vacaville Center). It was a 3 hour math-based competition starting at 10am, and ending at 1pm.
The teams consist of 4 students each. Armijo’s Varsity team is made up by Leonardo Merida (12), Dylan Robertson-Figaniak (12), Stacy Martin (11), and Tom Zheng (12). And on our JV Team: Esmeralda Merida (10), Harjot Multani (10), Alice Herston (10), and Joel Ward (10).
Although the Varsity team did not place, they thoroughly enjoyed the event. “Mr. David Bowen and myself ,” wrote Mr. Arbizu, “were very happy with their results and are proud of their achievements. It was fantastic to see teams of young mathematicians working in collaborative environments working on a myriad of different problems, including logic problems, puzzles, geometry problems and more.”
However, Armijo’s JV Team won second place in the competition against 12 other teams. Including Benicia High School (1st place), Fairfield High School, Dixon High School, and Buckingham.
At 2pm, students participated in an awads ceremony, in which the JV Team got their recognition for getting 2nd place in the competition.
