10 athletes who left a legacy
Many say winning isn’t everything, but for athletes, it is a way of measuring success and gain. With the Rio Olympics that just ended a few weeks ago at the end of August, we have a newfound interest in trying our best and becoming more motivated to accomplish. Athletes give us a will to triumph as who wouldn’t want all the glory and self-resolve? For these 10 determined and incredibly talented athletes, winning wasn’t everything, but for most of their careers, it was the only thing.
1. Bill Russell–2 college championships with the University of San Francisco (which included a 55-game win streak at one point), an Olympic gold medal, and 11 NBA championships in 13 years.
2. Michael Phelps–28 Olympic medals including 23 golds, 26 world championship golds, and 39 world records held.
3. Rocky Marciano–The only heavyweight to retire undefeated at 49-0.
4. Jack Nicklaus–18 majors including 4 US Open wins, 6 green jackets, and 73 PGA Tour wins overall.
5. Tiger Woods–14 majors, 39 European tour wins, and 78 PGA Tour wins.
6. Yogi Berra–10 World Series rings as a player and another 3 as a coach.
7. Henri Richard–Nicknamed “The Pocket-Rocket,” Richard won 11 Stanley Cups with the Montreal Canadians in his 20-year NHL career.
8. Joe Dimaggio–9-time World Series champion.
9. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar–6-time NBA champion, 3-time college champ with UCLA (over which they went 88-2), and captain of a Power Memorial High School basketball team that won 71 straight games and 3 New York City Catholic championships.
10. Roger Federer–17 Grand Slams, 77 career titles, and 6 Year-End Championships.

So true. Female athletes are often overlooked. We do plan on featuring several of the Armijo female athletes over the next year, though. Maybe next time they will be the superstars.
