CD Review: Background Music for Summer Living
Weezer, a popular band in the 90’s and early 2000’s, released the album Pacific Daydream last year, 2017. The album has 10 songs that feel very summery. I mean, how could they not when one of the songs on the album is called Feels Like Summer?
This album would be the perfect thing to listen to on road trips with your friends. Or at a beach. Or like any kind of corny, summer fun thing to do.
Much like Weezer’s very popular song, Island in the Sun from the mid 90’s, much of this album creates a perfect mood to make it seem like you’re living in a Corona commercial, just without the drinking. We’re in high school, that’s illegal. Anyway, moving on. Continuing with the comparison to Island in the Sun. Listening to that song creates a feeling of standing on a beach, with sand under your feet and the sun shining down on you, a very summery feeling. Pacific Daydream was able to recreate that feeling, reminding fans why, after over 20 years, fans still listen to them.
The main difference between Weezer’s self-titled album that Island in the Sun is on and Pacific Daydream is that it’s more refined, which makes a lot of sense. Their self-titled album came out when they were still starting out, just before they go signed to their first label. Pacific Daydream came out 23 years later, enough time for them to refine their sound the way they did.
This is a great album to make corny summer memories to, and I would recommend it.
