Cheer try-out process start Monday, May 14
Cheer tryouts for next year’s Armijo cheer team will start with a meeting for parents and potential squad members on Monday, May 14 from 4 – 6 pm.
A clinic where students can learn the routines will be offered from Tuesday – Thursday, May 15-17, from 4 – 6 pm daily, followed with official try-outs on Friday, May 18, starting at 4 pm.
There will be no callbacks. Everyone will get the opportunity to participate all four days. Finals decisions will be announced Friday evening.
Tryouts will consist of being able to do skills including tumbling, jumps, cheer/chants, arm movement, and dances, including hip hop and cheer dance styles. The students who want to tryout will learn a short routine featuring those skills.
The judges will be looking for great energy and lots of facial expressions. The adviser, Ms. Tonya Sias, better known as Coach Tee, is hoping to have a total of 25 athletes on both the JV and Varsity squad. The potential cheerleaders should come to the clinic prepared to work hard. They should recognize that being selected as part of the cheer team is a serious commitment and should not be taken lightly.
Those selected can expect the following year to be one that is exciting and filled with lots of new challenges and adventures. The team will focus on a lot of stunts and dancing. “If they trust the process they will learn a great deal of skills that they will be able to use the rest of the season of their lives,” said Coach Tee. “If students want to do cheer and another sport, they won’t be able to do both at the same; if they make the team they are required to cheer for the entire football and basketball season.”
