May 2018: Teacher Feature | Energy Outdoors
For the past five years, Ms. Megan Flores has been teaching physical education (PE), but only the last two years have been at Armijo High School .
She said that she started her career because of the bad teachers, rather than the good teachers, that influenced her. “I want to give this generation of kids a better interaction of working out every day than I had,” she said.
Even though Ms. Flores did not enjoy PE growing up, she did participate in sports when she attended Ygnacio High School in Concord. “I played soccer and ran track in high school,” she said. “My favorite thing about being a PE teacher is getting to play with my kids, but the challenges are getting them to like it and participate willingly…I think it´s fun to get to know my students´ names one by one and remember them within one month of the new school year. ¨
If she could teach any other subject, it would most likely be art because she would enjoy drawing all day, but she really likes being active.
Ms. Flores has a one year old child at home, so she’ll be looking at being a mother of a high school student in about thirteen years.
