Young Athlete Chases Future
Nixon McKenzie, sophomore, is an inspiration to fellow cross country athletes all over his team. McKenzie also is inspiring himself everyday, his biggest goal is to break the high school 800 record, 1:46, and works towards it everyday.
He shows so much passion towards this and believes that if making sacrifices and getting there alone is what he has to do he’s willing to rise to the challenge. McKenzie stated clearly, “One of my favorite memories being on the team was running with Alec Woodson (graduate from Armijo high school) last track season because we were the few that made it to state for the 800 meter race.
It was a really good friendship we had going so I enjoyed it.” McKenzie’s motivation isn’t just breaking the 800 meter record, but he aspires to keep the 4×4 meter team for the track season going after his teammates graduate. With big shoes to fill, he isn’t scared. He says there are big hopes going on for this upcoming season in Cross Country, he has big goals to go to state with his fellow varsity boys as a team.
McKenzie has had many previous achievements in Cross Country and Track and Field, being a part of the 4×4 team that was #1 in the nation at the beginning of the season!
