Dec 2017: Sibling Spotlight | One Year of Influence
They have lived in Fairfield for about 12 years and have attended school together for most of their lives. Until recently, Yzette Gomez was able to enjoy the Armijo campus without the input of her younger brother, Victor, but in August, he joined the Armijo family. It wasn’t the first time the siblings have shared a campus, though. Yzette is three years older so they also spent some time together in elementary school.
At Armijo they are often asked if they are siblings, but the people who they spend time with already know. The two enjoy hanging out with each other in the morning and at lunch, where they share food and talk with Yzzette’s boyfriend, Sahilpreet Singh.
The best part about sharing the campus is having extended bonding time outside of home. “As an older sibling ,I get to show him around and introduce him to new things here at Armijo,” Yzzette said.
Victor said, “My favorite thing about my sister is that she protects me and keeps me away from people who can lead me into trouble, and I appreciate that the most.” He said that he loves his sister and is always open to her opinions on things.”
For both of the siblings, there is a downside to getting comfortable with them together on campus. This is Yzzette’s last year and she wants Victor to make friends and to continue making good choices. She said, “My favorite thing is that he listens to me and I hope, when I’m gone, he continues to and make the appropriate choices. I know he can.”
