The Importance of the Flu Vaccine
It’s around the time of year when flu vaccines are being given out and when everyone is starting to get sick. Flu vaccines are important because they help fight off the flu. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), “While vaccine effectiveness can vary, recent studies show that flu vaccination reduces the risk of flu illness by between 40% and 60% among the overall population.” Those who want to see more about the vaccine’s effectiveness can click here.
The flu helps keep people from getting sick but yet not everyone gets the vaccine. Less than 60% of the population actually takes the flu shot. Alexis Botello said, “I get the flu shot because I think it helps and works.” Preventative actions like taking a flu shot can help keep people healthy, but some may choose to avoid the shot.
Daniel Zamarripa said, “I didn’t get the flu shot because, although doctors said it was safe, it felt wrong to believe what they said without question, and I don’t trust it.”
However, the advantages of vaccines and the flu shot far outweigh any lingering fears.
“Everyone should take the flu shot. It is scientifically proven and keeps everyone safe,” said Reigna Chan, “We should accept modern medicine- and avoid missing school!”
The flu shot is easy to get. It is available at different pharmacies like Rite Aid and Walmart as well as at hospitals and clinics. Some places charge their clients who get the flu shot but others give the vaccine out for free. This helps out anyone who can’t afford to and it makes it easier for everyone.
