October 2017: Teacher Feature | Spanish in Style

For the past few years students have been interacting with Spanish teacher who has impacted their learning in big ways. He is a little on the short side with fiery red hair that expresses his unique character. His enthusiasm makes his students want to learn more about the Spanish language, and the projects he assigns that creates structure for them. I would like to introduce you to Mr. David Belt.

“I play musical instruments  like the violin and the piano and I also write music,” he said. He was originally from Ridgecrest. “The reason I wanted to become a Spanish teacher is because I fell in love with the language when I was younger. My parents would speak Spanish they learned from their church missions and It created a doorway into my love for Spanish. My Spanish teacher also helped me a lot through high school and  that was  another reason I wanted to teach more.”

Mr. Belt was offered the opportunity to teach at Armijo in a department with people he knew and  could  collaborate with and he said that it  was the perfect community for him. “My first couple of years were rough but, as the years have passed, it has become smoother. Working with the wonderful Spanish department and being able to create lesson plans with more than one input has  had an impact on me because it has made things easier for me,” he said.

Mr. Belt offered the following advice to his current and future students. “Do your best every day and opportunities will come your way.”
