The book Guava and Grudges by Alexis Castellanos is a romance novel about Cuban girl, Ana Maria. After meeting another teen baker ,like herself, they manage to create a disastrous recipe and also fall for each other in a teen rival bakery competition. Ana Maria Ybarra wants to become a world-famous pastry chef but faces struggles with helping her family ´ s business stay open and running which is not making enough money to help her pay for culinary school. Ana decides to join a competition with the very successful Cuban bakery across the street, that has been growing in business with help from their Instagram followers. Ana’s only hope is to win a recipe competition that involves a grand prize that will be able to pay for culinary school, but gets distracted along the way when a cute boy ,Miguel, from 6 months ago arrived in her small town, after coming to a realization she would likely never see him again. After reconnecting she decides that it´s fate that brought them together until she finds out that Miguel is a Morales! Ana knows that a Ybarra can’t be friends or buddies with a Morales and even worse fall in love, yet he still offers to help her in this competition, desperate to win so she takes the offer.
