Juneteenth takes place every June 19, a holiday celebrating the end of slavery In the United States of the Civil War which back in the day. Juneteenth was created on June 19, 1985, and on June 17, 2021, Biden signed the Bill that declared Juneteenth as a Federal Holiday, some other people might know this holiday also as “ Freedom Day” or “ Emancipation Day”
People throughout the United States celebrate this holiday in different ways. Some of them could be by having family cookouts, some take it as a day to go out of town and enjoy the day, and other people do festivals or parades about it and potentially bring out speakers to walk about the importance of freedom. Although most people take this day as a celebration, some states like Hawaii, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Montana don’t believe that Juneteenth should be a holiday.
People need to recognize Juneteenth’s importance on people because it honors the end of slavery in the United States. It marks the day when the enslaved African Americans in Texas were finally set free, this shows a reminder of the struggle African American people had to fight for equality and freedom. Some concerns about this can be that sometimes this might not be given the attention it deserves.
