Here at Armijo, we have a lot of students who do sports off-campus, and one of those students is Kiera Tomko.
Kiera does gymnastics three times a week ( 9 hours a week) at Dream Xtreme in Vacaville. She has been doing gymnastics for 10 years and she is known at Xcel Diamond. Her reasoning for doing this sport was to be able to let all her energy out.
Since Kiera is a student athlete it is sometimes hard to balance school and a sport. The way she balances school and gymnastics is by making sure that she gets her school work done during the school day and if she doesn’t get it done after practice she’d sacrifice sleep.
She stated one thing you need to know before joining gymnastics is that you need to be brave. You can’t be afraid of trying new things. Especially with all the equipment you use and the tumbling you have to do.
She was asked if gymnastics was a stressful sport her response was “Yes, very much so.”Some of her pros about gymnastics are athleticism, learning how to encourage others, and time management. And her cons are not having a lot of time to do other things and it being stressful.
Something to know about her is that she sometimes regrets doing gymnastics but at the same time, she doesn’t. Sometimes she just wonders what life would be like without it, but she doesn’t even remember not doing gymnastics. It’s been her whole life.
She doesn’t really have any favorite memories. Her favorite memories are everything. But if she had to pick it’ll be competing with her old teammates and getting first place in the team awards.
If she could describe gymnastics in her own words, it would be stressful because it’s an independent sport, so you have to hold yourself accountable (ALWAYS). The second way she would describe it is as fun due to the fact that you make memories and friends, and you get to learn new skills; it broadens the things you can do. The last way she describes gymnastics is encouraging because you learn how to encourage others, and if you do other sports, like me, you use encouraging words everywhere.
