Fairfield’s Armijo High School had a standout performance at the recent CIF State Wrestling Championships in Bakersfield, with wrestler Kendrick Salcido making waves with a sixth-place finish. Salcido, the lone representative from a Fairfield school, went 3-2 in the tournament, showcasing his skills and determination on the mat.
Reflecting on his performance, Salcido acknowledged one of his weaknesses as struggling with motivation due to his tendency to be lazy. However, he expressed his commitment to improving by setting goals, staying accountable, and seeking support from those around him.
Despite this challenge, Salcido highlighted his unwavering drive to succeed as a key strength that propels him in his athletic pursuits. “I’m always giving my all, and I have that drive to win. I want to win. I don’t like losing. And that just makes me a good athlete. It’s just that tenacity I have,” he shared.
When asked about his passion for sports, Salcido revealed that his competitive nature and love for the game fuel his dedication to wrestling. While he may not know the exact reason for his passion, he emphasized the joy and satisfaction he feels from competing and achieving success in his sport.
