Does social media have a negative impact on students in Armijo? As we all may know high school students are very obsessed with social media/their phones. As much as they don’t realize excessive use of this tool could slowly damage your mental health. For example, when high school students get attacked on social media without realizing it they will sometimes find themselves ignoring the world and being so involved in their life through social media. Some teens will even find themselves losing track in school and losing interest in their hobbies. For many once they are addicted it’s hard for them to detach themselves which could potentially affect their future. Lacking in school, failing, not eating are also some negative side effects.
With something so addictive like social media it’s likely for the students to get used to it and that’s what happened with former student Isabella Torres, she explains to us her personal experience with social media and how it now negatively makes an impact . Torres says when she was a freshman in high school social media affected her credits and grades, she got extremely attached to social media to the point where school was like her last thought. She didn’t think much of it, she thought it was okay and didn’t pay attention to how draining it was and how much it took her away from the real world as well as her education. Torres emphasizes to the future high school students to learn from her and to time manage their social media usage especially for the new students who are learning and adjusting to a new environment. She said “must focus on it from the start or you will fall behind and it’s hard to get back up “.Torres has also mentioned how her parents caught on to her falling into the social media trap but initially she brushed it off and did not take her parents wise words seriously and then recognize she must do her best to sustain not using social media. All in all, try your best to stay with the real world before without realizing social media can negatively affect you.
