One of our newest teachers at Armijo High School is Mr. Chun. He’s been teaching for quite some time.
He began teaching adults at the University of Phoenix in 2009 and continued teaching high school students there afterward.
Chun was a Sonoma State University student. After many years in management, he made the decision that he wanted to return home and give back to his hometown by becoming a teacher.
The teaching style of Mr. Chun strives to be flexible, which means that not everything happens according to plan. He makes an effort to give the student a voice and an opinion. Since economics is his specialty and history is his background, he finds that teaching it to kids helps them comprehend that it’s all about money and history. He enjoys talking and building relationships with the students. He doesn’t like it when you have so many students that you feel you can’t get to know them all.
Returning to school following COVID is the largest obstacle because there is still much work to be done on improving students’ mental health, which will benefit their academic performance. His ability to create a welcoming environment for his students was the key to his teaching success. This includes attention checkpoints and doing one-on-one with them to mold them on how to listen. He balances his other significant responsibilities with his teaching duties. He makes an effort to follow his timetable and breaks from it when necessary, like during a break.
