Kira Hernandez is currently a freshman on the Girls JV soccer team. She played soccer in the 7th grade and chose to play again in her first year of high school.
Her inspiration is Diego Lainez. He is a Mexican professional soccer player known for playing as a winger for Liga MX club Tigres UANL and the Mexico national team. She states, “I look up to him because I like the way he plays.”
At our school, Hernandez plays defense or midfield. She believes her coaches and teammates would describe her as “an okay player.” Every school day, she hangs out with her friends, attends soccer practice after school, completes her homework, and then eats. Before getting on the field, #24 chats with other players to prepare herself.
Hernandez hopes to continue playing this sport with a team in the future. Right now, she feels that she doesn’t have any major accomplishments, but is looking forward to making some great ones.
Hernandez has learned many lessons from playing soccer. In the interview, she explains, “Participating in this sport has taught me a lot like don’t be afraid and just go for it. You can also count on your teammates to help you out.” To add on, during games her mindset is to focus on getting the ball and to have fun. Since that is her mindset, some advice she has for incoming freshmen hoping to play soccer is, “To play the sport and have fun. Don’t worry about winning. Just have a good time.”
