I attended the original first showing of The Eras Tour Movie on Friday, October 13th at 6 pm. Ticket prices were $19.89, a reference to her new album dropping, 1989 (Taylor’s Version). Almost everyone in the theater dressed in a Taylor-related outfit or merchandise. I started by getting the popcorn/cup bundle for $19.89. The bundle comes with a large popcorn and a large drink with 1 free refill. The ads/previews before the movie weren’t the typical previews. They usually play trailers for upcoming movies and an occasional ad. This time it played ads Taylor-related or starring Taylor Swift herself. This further enhanced the concert experience.
The build-up to the film also had to do with her surprise songs, “You’re On Your Own, Kid,” and “Our Song.” This was almost symbolic because “Our Song” is from her debut album, Taylor Swift, and “You’re On Your Own, Kid” is from her newest album, Midnights. She also faced controversy for cutting songs like “Cardigan,” “Long Live,” and “The Archer,” which were fan favorites.
Singing was encouraged by fans and Swift’s team, Taylor Nation. The environment going in was very welcoming. You could see tons of fans filled with excitement. The movie/concert experience had a lot of hype building up for it. This isn’t the first time Swift recorded her concerts with films like Taylor Swift’s Reputation Stadium Tour. Although this is the first time her concert films were in theaters.
During the film, people were singing and dancing while seated. No one was yelling to the point where you could not hear the movie. Looking around, you can see people were singing, but the volume of the movie was loud enough to not hear each other even with a packed theater. I talked to a fellow Armijo High School student who also attended the opening film.
“It was such a fun way to get to experience the concert since tickets were impossible to get,” said Jocelyn Saenz.
Overall, the film was a fun experience that I recommend if you like Taylor Swift. Bring your friends to watch the film in theaters or you can rent the film for $19.89. Everyone should see Swift’s amazing performance skills and how well-assembled the tour was.
