Taylor Swift has been in the music industry for quite a while now. She first developed a passion for singing at the young age of 10. In fact, she began performing at small events before releasing her first self-titled album, “Taylor Swift,” back in 2006. Fast forward nearly 17 years, and she now boasts 10 original studio albums, 4 re-recorded studio albums, 5 extended plays, and 4 live albums. She remains active, continuing to release music to this day.
“Reputation” by Taylor Swift was released on November 10, 2017. This album consists of 15 tracks, starting with track 1, “…Ready for it,” and concluding with track 15, “New Year’s Day.”
In my opinion, this album leans more towards electro-pop and R&B. Among the songs, only one features collaboration, the second track “End Game,” with an unexpected combination of Ed Sheeran and Future. Despite the mix of genres in this track, I would rate it a 6/10 overall. Surprisingly, their voices blend well together, giving Swift credit for creating this unique trio.
According to a 2023 Time interview, Taylor described the album’s theme as “a goth-punk moment of female rage at being gaslit by an entire social structure.”
Google indicates that the sounds in the album mainly come from programmed drum machines, pulsating synthesizers, and bass, produced by Jack Antonoff, Max Martin, and Shellback.
While “Reputation” may not be my favorite Taylor Swift album, it still holds significance, earning her awards such as Favorite Pop Album and Billboard’s Best Selling Album.
Overall, I would give this album a solid 7 out of 10. My favorite tracks were “New Year’s Day” and track 14, “Call It What You Want.”
