January 27, 1941. A date that will forever be remembered. I’m sure we are all aware of the tragedies that occurred during the Holocaust, but maybe aren’t aware of why it was made an international day of honor. Holocaust remembrance was made an annual honoring for all the victims and families that went through this terrible period of time. This also gives the survivors a day and chance to be seen. The events that happened during the Holocaust resulted in mass genocide of one third of the Jewish people, along with countless members of other minorities by Nazi Germany. We don’t really hear about the other groups affected by the holocaust, people only ever really teach and talk about the Jews. But the Jehovah’s witness, Gypsies, People with disabilities and many more were also thrown into the torture the Nazis threw at them. With that said the holocaust will be an example of why we need to do everything we can to prevent further genocide and torture to humans by dictators.

Jaida Cardinale Aveytia, Staff writer
Hi, I am Jaida Cardinale Aveytia. I am from Vallejo, California and I am in the ninth grade. Some things that I enjoy about journalism are the events that we cover, and go to, also all the topics that we write about for the school news. I enjoy writing, hanging out with friends, taking pictures, and going to the beach. I enjoy these particular things because they help me be in the moment and not think about things that are stressful like assignment deadlines.
A couple more of my interests are listening to music and traveling to new places. I would say one of my biggest ambitions is to become a Marine photographer because ever since I was little I’ve always had a love and interest for the ocean and its creatures, and if I wasn’t able to have that as a career I would be a labor and delivery nurse. Being a Labor and delivery nurse has sounded interesting to me for some time now because being able to help someone bring a child into this world is amazing and I would love to be a part of that.
