Football season is here, and new experiences, friendships, and memories are being made. Someone a part of our Football team who helped make this all possible is David Powell, a 15 year old sophomore on Armijos JV team. Powell’s number is 22 and plays the position of Tight end, and D end. He’s on kickoff return and punt return. Powell loves football and continues doing it because he’s done it his whole life and “can’t see a life without it.” Powell also continues doing football to one day do it in college which helps push him to be the best he can be.Other things that motivates him is his teammates and family. His teammates describe him as always doing better in a game than at practice, showing that at a game Powell puts in 110% effort. Powell’s biggest achievement is getting a pick 6 from DN. Advice Powell would give to incoming freshmen wanting to do football is “when the coaches ask if you’re tired, never say yes,” and, “Do your best.” Being a student athlete is a huge commitment and at times can be hard but Powell says “It starts to get easier the more you do it.” He also explains that at some point the routine of being a student athlete becomes second nature. A life lesson that Powell learned from playing football is teamwork. Throughout Powells years of playing football he learned that no matter what you lose and win as a team, and you’re only as strong as the weakest on the team.

About the Contributor
Mayleen Atuatasi, Staff writer
My name is Mayleen Atuatasi, but I go by May. I’m a 14-year-old freshman who goes to Armijo High School. I chose to join the journalism class because I like to report on school events. My favorite hobbies are reading and writing. I’ve always been happy to write about a topic, and being in this class would help me continue with that passion.
Throughout the years my goal of becoming a doctor has never changed, just like my favorite color staying purple, or loving to read and write. In the future, I wish to go to NYU to become a neurosurgeon. Before that, though, I would like to be a paraprofessional. I would become a paraprofessional to help both teachers and students.
