Armijo’s cheer season is here! With the beginning of this season, this time of year invites new experiences and friendships. Part of our Armijo cheerleaders is Erin Salcido, a 15-year-old sophomore who’s been doing Armijo cheer for two years. Outside of Armijo, Salcido has been cheering for eleven years, doing All Star, NA, and sideline cheer. Salcido says her favorite part about cheer is, “the friendships that are made.” Salcido explains that her favorite memories of cheer are when the team hangs out outside of practice. Some advice she would give to new student-athletes wanting to join cheer is to, “learn how to balance out your life.” Salcido explains that being a student-athlete is a huge commitment that you have to get used to, but with time, it will become second nature.
Salcido would like to give a shoutout to her teammates, who encourage her every day to become both a better cheerleader and person. Something that inspires Salcido is the growth she makes. She loves knowing that she is getting better and is closer to her goal of one day cheering for a college. She also loves the tumbling, jumping, stunting, and dancing part of cheer. Salcido says her biggest accomplishment in the sport was, “learning how to adapt to new surroundings.” She already knew many styles of cheer but was still able to adapt to new ones.
Cheer has taught Salcido important life values, like learning how to adapt and be flexible in new environments, while also balancing her life.
