The bilingual soul singer, Omar Apollos’s life changed overnight when his song, ¨Evergreen (You Didn’t Deserve Me at All)” blew up on Tiktok a couple of months after he released his vinyl record, Ivory.
In February 2023, Apollo got a Grammy nomination for ´Best New Artist´ for the hit song. Fans worldwide loved it. The singer himself started experimenting with music when he was younger by giving himself vocal lessons. This wasn’t Omar’s first piece of work though.
In 2017 he dropped his first single ¨Brake Lights¨. He then proceeded to release his first album, ¨Stereo¨ in 2018. Five years later, he now has 5 studio albums including a deluxe version of an album. A year after his first album, Omar released ¨Friends¨ (2019), Apolino (2020) and Ivory in 2022. In August of last year, Apollo surprised fans with a deluxe version of Ivory (Marfil) that included 5 extra tracks.
After reviewing this album my top three favorite songs were, ¨Endesly¨, ¨Archetype¨ and ¨Waiting on You ¨. While listening to the lyrics throughout each song I did notice a storyline to it. I felt as if I was on a rollercoaster full of emotions. The album takes you along Omar’s heartbreak and how he dealt with it. Ivory deserves a 10/10 rating from me. I really enjoyed how he played around with all the beats because it made each song unique in its own way. Some examples of this could be used in songs like, ¨No Good Reason ¨ and ¨Tamagachi¨ these tracks had more upbeat sounds to them unlike like ¨Personally¨ and ¨Petrified¨. Everything was perfect about this album. The lyrics, the voice, the purpose, it was a well-done piece.
