More than expected from a YA story
Book Review – The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson
Usually I would rate a book overall at the end of the review but I really liked The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson and am so excited to announce that I gave this book 3/5 stars, which for me personally is pretty high.
I am not a really big fan of YA books anymore. That being said, this book seems to be one of my very few exceptions. The beginning of this book was kind of slow, which made me not really care for it at first, but I pushed through and realized that this book was actually pretty interesting!
A reviewer on Amazon.com explained the plot like this: “Alexandra (Andie) Walker has her whole summer planned out. Medical program at Johns Hopkins, hanging out with her besties Tobi, Bri, and Palmer, and avoiding her Congressmen dad at all costs. But after her dad gets sucked into a political scandal and her medical program invitation was removed, everything had become unexpected from the way she has planned it. But after she sees a job advertisement, takes it, and runs into a boy in her job, maybe unexpected things aren’t so bad after all…” (https://www.amazon.com).
Matson did an amazing job at making this book a lot of fun and gave off the right message about friendship and perseverance. Like I said before, I am not a really big fan of YA and the reason being that a lot of times YA authors make things a little too unrealistic, making it harder to read the book, and in some ways it happened in this book as well. Still, Matson was able to put enough realism into the story to make us believe in the characters and in their choices.
In conclusion if you love a book about family, friends and love, this book is the book for you! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a light and simple read!
