Have fun at the next Improv Show
Thursday, April 27 at 7 pm
As we approach the month of May, a bunch of events are on their way to end the school year right. One of those is the Improv show hosted by Armijo’s Improv Team, a subdivision of Armijo Theatre Productions, a group of students who try out at the beginning of the year and practice their improv skills after school with Ms. Sheena Beeson, Theatre teacher, as the coach.
Students who are currently interested in joining the team can still come to club meetings in T2 at lunch on Wednesdays. “We also host improv hours every other Friday after school in the same room where you can watch or play some of the same games that we use in performance,” said Ms. Beeson. “Those are open to anyone on campus.”
On Thursday, April 27, there will be a student improv event at 7 pm. in the cafetorium. The tickets are $3 cash at the door. Concessions will be sold at the show.
An improv show is typically up to two hours and the short comedies are based on audience suggestions. Although the audience members are watching, there is at least one game where two audience members are involved.
Some of the team’s favorite games include “Podium, Scenes from a Hat, 7-Second Scene, and Pan Left Pan Right,” according to Ms. Beason. Up to ten games are typically played during the hours.
This isn’t the last show of the year, though. The improv team usually tries to do about four Improv shows during the school year, but they still have a few more performances to go. On Thursday, May 4, there will be a student vs staff improvement event at 7 pm. in the cafetorium. A variety show is scheduled for Friday, May 19, and an Alumni Improv Show is lined up for Thursday, June 1.
