Armijo soars at Meet of Champions

Record-breakers and trend-setters take a breather after the meet.

During the weekend of April 22-23, Armijo ran at the Sacramento Meet of Champions event at American River College. This is a very high quality meet as only the top athletes entered into the meet are allowed to compete. The Royals qualified two relay teams and several individuals.

  • The boys’ 4x100m relay team of Deonte White, Jesse Reid, Evan Wortham, and Treveon Henderson (Kaiba Washington was a member of the team who ran the qualifying time but was injured and did not run.)
  • The girls’ 4x100m relay team of Cierra Kinsey, Anisteicia Kinsey, A’Jah Parks, and Sanai Wilson
  • Cierra Kinsey also qualified individually in the 400m and the 200m.
  • Wortham also qualified individually for the 400m and the 200m.
  • Lilian Luu qualified for the 1600m.

At the end of the day, Armijo walked away with several fantastic results. The girls’ relay team ran a new personal best of 48.66, which moved them into 4th place in the section and Cierra Kinsey ran a 56.6 second 400m, which places her 2nd place in the section. As a quick side note, the top four in the section will earn qualifications to the state meet at the end of the season.

The Monticello Empire League (MEL) Championships are being held at Armijo this year on Wednesday, May 3, and Friday, May 5. Hopefully we will see many of you out there cheering on these amazing athletes.
