Four years come to an end
Senior Spotlight – Milan McCane
While some seniors are glad they will be leaving Armijo in June, for others, it’s emotional because of the wild four years they have had. Milan McCane has had her share of adventure in the last four years. She feels emotional about graduating, knowing she will miss the people she has met and have spent all these years with.
From the days she was a freshman, she has been involved with different clubs such as Gay Student Alliance (GSA) and International Club, but she has also dipped her toes in athletics, taking part in the water polo, softball, and track, although that sport season got cut short due to COVID. Still, she was able to serve as co-captain of the water polo team for her senior year.
“My favorite memory was homecoming during my junior year,” she said. That was when there was a bubble machine right near the dance floor, and all the lights were flashing while everyone danced to music and didn’t worry about anything else. “But most of all, I’ll miss some teachers on campus that have impacted me a lot in my time at the school.”
McCane has packed her last four years with lots of interesting activities and events, but she has already explored many options for her future. Currently, she is torn between attending Whittier College, located in Southern California, and Bennett College in North Carolina. Whichever choice wins, she intends to major in music, the goal of becoming a professional musician.
Outside of McCane’s busy life at school dealing with International Baccalaureate (IB), club activities, sports, and more, she enjoys listening to and creating music, hanging out with her friends, eating food, and doing word searches.
Now that she has had the opportunity and experience high school, she has advice for any newcomers and seniors next year: “Take it easy, and don’t try to tackle more than you’re comfortable with. It’s easy to get stressed during high school”
