Dress in style for A Night in Vegas

Fashion Review – What to Wear for Prom

Prom season is here and with it comes the excitement of choosing the perfect dress or suit to make the night unforgettable! With so many options available, from traditional styles to more contemporary looks, students have plenty of choices when it comes to prom attire.

Masculine Wear

Izeiyah Santos chose to go according to the theme for his suit. “I will be dressing according to the theme,” he said. “I’m going to be doing a beige pinstripe, with no tie.  I’m going to try and get it in silk.  I’m not sure what brand or where I’m buying it from since I haven’t bought it yet.”

A classic look for guys.

Other students are opting for unique and free-spirited prom attire. Francisco Xiquin is wearing something he’ll be more open to.   “I think most likely I’ll try to be more open to clothing, because last year I was kind of basic.  I might want to go over the top since it’s my last year here,” he said.  “I still haven’t decided whether or not. I’ll be dressing according to the theme with the person I’m going with, but we might just do our own thing.

“We’re thinking a light blue or purple for color.  For the tie that I’ll wear, I’ll probably have the tie as a silky fabric.  I’ll be wearing a full set – a tuxedo and everything, a jacket, a vest, a button up.  And for shoes, I’m sticking to the original dress shoes.  For my hair, I might just slick it back, but it depends.  For accessories–bracelets and a chain, both in gold.”

Feminine Wear

For Olivia Mauk, a dress fit for the color scheme of the theme, A Night in Vegas, was just right for her.  “I’m going with the color scheme, but it wasn’t a determining factor, it was just a coincidence.  My dress is red, and I got it at David’s Bridal.  My dress fabric is lacy, with sequins… I’m going to be more comfortable this year.  The style I wore last year made me very conscious all the time, but now I’ll be very comfortable,” she said. “I’m going with my girlfriend, and we’re wearing corresponding colors.  They’re wearing black, and I’m wearing red.”

For Krysha Pinero, a dark colored dress was just for her!  “It’s going to be a fitted dress, like a corset type.  A dark color for me., but for anyone else, a good color to wear is red, and maybe light colors for them.”

Alyanna Galura provides some thoughts about feminine dressing for girls.  “For girls, I think they look so pretty with elegance.  Elegant clothing and accessories are typically well-tailored, high-quality, and timeless, and can create a polished and put-together look,” she said. Galura has a perfect example of what to wear for an elegant look. “To be honest, I don’t have my dress yet, but, I want to wear a long, fit-for-me silk dress.  I’m going to wear heels, but not that high, around two inches.  I might go to the mall today and visit Windsor cause it’s cheap.”

Mauk added commentary about heels.  “I feel like heels depend on what you want to do.  Definitely if you can’t walk in heels or if it’s gonna hurt, don’t do it.  If you do, don’t wear really high ones, probably like an inch and a half or like two inches. Just don’t wear anything that’s going to be uncomfortable for you.  You want to be able to have fun and not be in pain.”

Accessories

Accessorizing yourself for prom is important because it can help enhance your overall look and makes you feel more confident and stylish on this special occasion.  Girls can add sparkle and shine with jewelry, a clutch, or a hair accessory, while boys can customize their look with a unique bow tie, pocket square, or cufflinks.

Mauk provided a great example of how to accessorize. “I have a necklace, some earrings, and a corsage,” she said. “I always make sure I have something on each hand.  I have a corsage in one hand, a bracelet in the other.  No purse for me, since I actually got a dress with pockets, so I don’t need a purse, because obviously, when you’re dancing, you don’t want to have a purse in the way.  But definitely, if you don’t have pockets, bring a purse, but not a clutch cause then you’ll have to hold it.”

Last Notes

For those who are unsure about what to wear to prom, there are plenty of ideas to consider. Girls can choose from a variety of styles, including classic ball gowns, sleek and modern dresses, or fun and danceable short dresses. Boys have options such as classic tuxedos, suits in unique colors or patterns, or even more casual attire like a blazer paired with jeans.

If you are still unsure about what to wear to prom, you could dress according to theme.  Olivia Mauk, one of Armijo’s Leadership officers, said, “The theme is A Night In Vegas, but it doesn’t mean that you have to dress up as that. It’s just the decorations.  The colors for the theme is black, red, white–maybe like gold.“

These two dress inspirations fit the theme:

Ultimately, prom is a night to celebrate and have fun with friends, so choosing the right outfit is a big part of making the night unforgettable. Whether you choose a classic or modern look, or something completely unique, the most important thing is to wear something that makes you feel confident and ready to dance the night away.
