A step toward her career goals
Volunteer – Diana Zetino Benitez, Nursing Assistant
Volunteering is not only a way to help others in the community, but also a way to help oneself. Diana Zetino Benitez knows the benefits of volunteering. She recently started serving as a volunteer nurse assistant during the weekends, from 8 am to 3 pm
“I want to help other people, you know, spend some last moments with them and also help myself prepare for my college applications and college in general,” she said. Although she currently has “no idea” which college or university she’s set on attending, she’s certainly on the right track to pursuing her career as a Traveling Nurse. .
“I think although it has been difficult, volunteering has not changed the way I feel about wanting to be a Travel Nurse,” she said. “Yes, it is hard to have to wake up at 8 in the morning on weekends, but the opportunities I’m getting, especially as a young person, make it worth it.”
In the amount of time she’s been volunteering, Zetino has gained “experience into the career of what she wants to study for,” she said. “It helps me gain skills and experience for later on.”
Zetino recommends volunteering to other high school students because, not only will it look good on a college or job application, but it will also “help you decide what you really want your field of work to be in the future!” she said. Students can find a way to volunteer and enhance their college applications easily. “You can go talk to a lovely staff member here at Armijo, Mrs. Anderson.”
