Speed is just part of her role on the track
Athlete Focus – Sanai Wilson-Liles, Track & Field
As a member of track’s sprint team, Sanai Wilson-Liles helps keep the Royals in the spotlight. Her events include the 4×1, the 100, the 200, and the 400.
Wilson-Liles joined track to stay in shape, but she ended up falling in love with the sport because she likes to compete and run. “It makes my day better,” she said. Her best moments from track were getting a medal last year and hitting a new personal record almost every week.
A typical day at track practice consists of warmups, drills, a workout which is a lot of sprinting, and yoga. This routine has made her comfortable and she plans to continue running throughout high school and college. When she gets to college, she plans to study nursing.
Wilson-Liles admitted that she wished she knew before joining track how fun it is because she would have joined sooner. She offered some tips to those who are just starting: “Don’t focus on the people around you, it’s all about yourself, and it’s like you’re against time,” she said.
Her favorite part of being on the track team is competing with her teammates since she likes being with them a lot. “The environment on the track team is super amazing, super supportive, they’ll support you through every event you do, it’s like a big family,” she said.
Since she has fallen in love with the sport, Wilson-Liles recommends that everyone try out, since it’s a lot of fun and it’s something everyone can do.
