A story worth following in animation
DVD Review – Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Sonic the Hedgehog is an iconic character of our childhood, but he is also a familiar staple in the animation industry as well. Sonic has been around for over 30 years. Originally he was supposed to be a rabbit named Feel but they quickly changed him to a hedgehog which is more likely to “transcend race and gender” (https://www.insider.com/every-version-sonic-the-hedgehog-1991-today-evolution-2020-2) Feel the Rabbit would pick things up with his ears and then attack enemies.
It wasn’t until February 14, 2020 that Sonic made his first appearance on film. Not long after he returned back for a second movie. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 came out on April 8, 2022, with Ben Schwartz voicing the one and only Sonic. Ben Schwartz was not new to the voice industry, either. He has previously voice acted in Ducktales (2017-2022), Turbo (2013) and more.
The Sonic duology has been very successful. In fact the second movie beat the original film by scoring $331.64 million at the global box office. That makes it the most successful video game adaptation of all time.
Jeff Fowler was the magic guy behind all this. He has directed the Sonic series, including the upcoming film, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 that comes out next year. This is just the start of Jeff Fowler’s career.
While the movie is rated PG, I still enjoyed it. Doctor Eggman was my favorite character in the film. The famous Jim Carrey played the evil villain (Doctor Eggman) and played it well.
Although he was my favorite, my favorite scene did not include him. Knuckles story scene was my favorite part. The tension was very high and the scene itself was very intense.
Overall I’d rate this film by Jeff Fowler a 6/10.
