Fashion Focus – Colors to beat the winter blues
When people get sad during winter, they call it the Winter Blues. Winter Blues may last longer for some, but genuinely, everyone wants to get rid of them. One of the ways to get rid of the blues is by bringing in color.
Color is important, since color can make us feel a certain way when we see it depending on whether we like that particular color or not.
Winter may be cold, but the season can bring people together with warmth and connection. With this in mind, we can use warmer colors to get rid of the winter blues.
Reds, oranges, yellows, are the three main warm colors. The two shades to the left shown are actually cooler colors, but when incorporated with more upbeat colors, they work well.
According to Kendra Cherry, colors can bring up certain emotions. “These warm colors evoke emotions ranging from feelings of warmth and comfort to feelings of anger and hostility. Colors on the blue side of the spectrum are known as cool colors and include blue, purple, and green. These colors are often described as calm, but can also call to mind feelings of sadness or indifference.”

Even though all look cool, they still can drive you away from the winter blues. This is because of the slight hints of yellow in the last two colors. With this color palette, it can show you that cool colors don’t always have a sad feeling.
And with a greenish palette, we can see growth when it comes to meaning. Cameron Chapman said, “Green is a very down–to–earth color. It can represent new beginnings and growth. It also signifies renewal and abundance.” We can use this information to counteract the winter blues. If the winter blues stopped you from growing or from moving forward, wear green to sprout your style into something new.
We can’t always avoid the color blue, even though it’s in the phrase, so an example is incorporating it with bright colors or just brightness itself, like white.
