A club that welcomes all
Club Focus: Christian Club
Every Friday the Christian Club meets in C-5. The club has about 30 members and they recently started including ice-breaker activities at the beginning of the meetings so that people can feel more comfortable sharing with one another.
Many people have the misconception that you have to be a Christian to attend the club. “You do not have to be a Christian to join the club,” said adviser Ms. Lori Gonzalez. “Everybody is welcome and it’s actually nice to have students who come in and maybe have some questions about Christianity or religion in general.”
While Ms. Gonzalez is the adviser on campus, the club is run by its officers: President Bessy Monge, Vice President Mahri Tiemann, and Secretary Lily Ornelas (secretary).
This month, the club is collaborating with the Multimedia Academy to do a Book Drive and participate in Deck the Halls, on Friday, December 16. “When that comes I think the Multimedia Academy is taking B–hall and the Christian Club is going to assist by giving out some books for Christmas,” said Ms. Gonzalez, who took the club over from Mr. Lawrence Trigg four years ago before he retired.
Christian Club, under different names, has been part of the Armijo campus for over three decades. It will always be a comfortable and safe space for many years to come.
