Varsity soccer outscores Vaca Christian
Var:10-0 Win (1-0-0)
On Friday, November 18, the Varsity Boys’ Soccer team showed up ready and excited to play their first game of the season, and for some it was their first game ever here at Armijo or on the Varsity squad. Senior and Captain Diego Torres was able to start things off right with a goal off a rebound at four minutes in. He then followed up with another one minute later.
Vaca Christian was able to rally and hold us off for another four minutes before Junior center Dawson Le curved one in. Next, one of our freshmen, Issac Aguirre Valenzuela, was able to sink two in three minutes apart. His first was scored by dribbling through three players to sink into the top corner, and second was a straight volley into the top bin.
Torres was able to sneak one more in before the end of half. Junior and Captain goalkeeper Jackson Harrington was able to hold the shut out for the entire half.
The team had a good talk at half about what was going well, what they needed to work on and how they needed to adjust play by adding some limitations to help ease the difference in level of play between us and them. The boys had a good huddle and went back into play with a positive attitude and good spirits. Vaca Chrisitian was able to hold us for about 10 minutes before Torres was able to get two more goals.
Seniors Misael Gomez and Abraham Perez Ascencio were the next two to get their goals in before the team adjusted play again to work on ball movement around the field vs into the attacking third. With the end of the second half, Senior goalkeeper Miguel Salas was able to hold the shut out and secure the win.
Overall great work from all of the Royals and everyone got some good play time and learned some valuable lessons to take to the next game at home on Wednesday, November 30, against American Canyon. Junior Varsity (JV) will have their first match of the season that night.
