Suisun Elementary School hosts first Community Music Night of the year

Students and community members showcase musical talents at Community Music Night.

Fairfield, CA – On Tuesday, October 25, 2022, Suisun Elementary School welcomed students, staff, and community members to the first Community Music Night of the school year.

The Community Music Night series was created in 2021 primarily for two reasons: to provide students with an inclusive and informal setting to share their musical talents, and to connect with the Suisun Elementary community through music.

The events showcase some of the music students’ work from music class.  There is also an open mic portion so students and their families can share music-making in which they may be engaged outside of school.

“For me, more than anything else, music is about joy and connection,” said Suisun Elementary music teacher Amy Halton. “I hope these events help students to feel comfortable sharing their talents with an audience and bring our school community closer together. I can think of no better way to do that than through sharing music and food!”

Community Music Nights are typically held outdoors and have included local food trucks. Attendance at these events has increased from last year, and the students and staff of Suisun Elementary School are looking forward to hosting their next Community Music Night in the near future.
