Two birthdays means a bigger celebration
Sibling Spotlight – Isaias & Leslie Bravo Meza
When you celebrate your birthday, it is your special day, a day when you have all the attention and you are in the spotlight, unless you have to share that day with someone else.
Most of the time, when siblings share a birthday, it is because they are twins. It is expected to share your birthday with a twin sibling, and there are so many other things that twins share. That’s not exactly the situation for Isaias and Leslie Bravo Meza. Once his younger sister was born on his birthday, Isaias had to share practically everything, including his big day, but it isn’t all bad.
“Sharing birthdays with my older brother is not all bad because we don’t ever make it about just one person,” Leslie said, but sometimes it takes away from some of the fun. “I get excited about my birthday, but my brother seems more nonchalant about it, which makes me feel bad for him.”
“Sharing birthdays used to bother me,” said Isaias. “Maybe it’s because I was more immature back then, but now it’s different and I don’t really mind sharing birthdays with my sister.” In fact, he generally enjoys it.
“One thing that I like about sharing birthdays is that more people come together to celebrate it.,”
said Isaias. “We usually receive our own presents because we would rather not share our own presents.” One thing they do have to share, however, is a cake.
“I think I would like to celebrate both birthdays at once simply because it feels more natural and it’s more fair for both of us,” said Leslie.
“I used to think about celebrating our birthdays on different days, but now I think it’s best that we both celebrate it together,” Isaias said.
