Armijo continues a colorful tradition
The 3rd annual Color Run was hosted by Leadership on Friday, September 23. Over 200 people attended the event this year, a bit less than last year’s attendance, but it was a positive way to spend the end of the first grading period.
“It started some time ago, one student in particular had participated in a 5k that was color-powdered themed and she really wanted to bring it to Armijo,” said Mr. Casey Towner, Leadership adviser.
What made this year’s event special is the way Leadership had bought $120 worth of color. There were families, siblings and parents of students who participated. “It was really cool to see the families having fun together, so I say the combination of the amount of color we had as well the families getting involved was really really cool,” Mr. Towner said.
Three main races were included in the event: a speed-walking race, a jogging race, and a full-run race. Many obstacles were set up throughout the route that racers had to pass through. “There were hurdles, there were tires that you had to jump through, but the main obstacle this year was getting through all that color,” said Mr. Towner.
But the event was so much more than just the races. There were also games of musical chairs, as well as a concession stand and a face-painting station. The money made from concessions and shirts for the event will go back into the Associated Student Body (ASB) account to fund future school events. Every shirt was sold and the money could go towards more color for next year’s Color Run 2023.
This event was a great opportunity for students to let loose, have fun and make some high school memories. Because of its popularity, the tradition will most likely continue for years to come.
