Planned repairs will keep gym closed indefinitely.

While conducting maintenance on part of the Armijo High School gym, Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD) staff found part of the wall surfacing was delaminating. Through previous training, staff identified possible asbestos. Further testing concluded the presence of asbestos on one wall of the gym.

To ensure the safety of students and staff, the gym was closed immediately. A remediation contractor is needed in order to encapsulate the affected area and to reopen any part of the gym. It is the District’s hope that 80% of the gym will be reopened after the affected area has been encapsulated and it is deemed safe to do so. The exact timeline of the project is unknown.

The site administrators are working with Central Office staff to find alternatives for Homecoming and sporting events.
