Great friendships made on the field
Off-Campus Athlete: Joselyn Godinez Chavez, Soccer
Joselyn Godinez Chavez gets a kick out of soccer. She plays for Solano Surf, a local club team, and she’s been playing soccer for the past eight years. “Growing up, my brother was always on a team and I loved playing with him. He really inspired me to play on an actual team,” she said. Godinez currently plays winger and center mid and she plans on improving her speed because it’s useful in balancing skills.
“Something I love about soccer is the great friendships I’ve made over the years through the sport,” said Godinez. Her team would describe her as energetic because she always has a ton of energy, whether it’s a game practice or any team bonding event.
Godinez obviously loves soccer a lot, but also enjoys spending time with her siblings and going out with them. She also played volleyball and ran track in middle school. “I always feel accomplished when I make my dad proud and when he tells me how good I did,” she said.
Alex Morgan is a women’s soccer player that Godinez looks up to and Godinez describes her as a “fierce player who has inspired many people around the world including me.”
She hasn’t looked into playing soccer after high school for a school or team, but Godinez would love to continue it as one of her hobbies. She plans to study in the medical field after she graduates high school in 2024.
