She doesn’t come in second place!
All in a Name – Winn
While the last name Winn stands out in the world, it is not the only unusual name in Julianna Winn’s maternal family. “Besides Winn, another interesting name in my family is Strange,” she said. “This specific last name belongs to my Dad and my Grandma.”
Winn is a sophomore and is the only person in her family to attend Armijo, and she hasn’t met anyone else with her name personally. “I have seen and heard people who have the same last name,” she said. If she were given the chance, though, she would not change her name. “I really like my first name and last name. I feel it makes me unique.”
“Usually when people hear my name they ask me to repeat my last name or the make jokes out of it but it doesn’t really bother me.” It’s not unusual for people, upon hearing her name, to ask if she’s in First Place, or if she’s a Winner. Even with this clever name she hasn’t been driven to participate in extracurricular activities. “I just never had an interest in them,” she said.
Her future is unclear, but it doesn’t mean she hasn’t thought of what to do after she graduates in 2026. She said that she might go to college, maybe at some place like UCLA or Harvard, but she would prefer to focus on a dream job as a car mechanic or “just anything to do with cars in general.”
