Outstanding winners from the Academy
Since 1929, actors have been attending the Academy Awards and making Oscar history with their outstanding performances. Just recently, the 2022 Academy Awards awarded an Oscar to the first deaf actor, Troy Kotsur, for Best Supporting Actor. The 2022 Oscars also awarded Ariana DeBose an award for Best Supporting Actress, making her the first queer women of color to win that award (Academy Award milestones, storylines to watch). These amazing milestones and achievements make Oscar history unique and diverse. However, throughout these 93 years which actor has one the most awards?
In 1934, Katharine Hepburn won an Oscar for her leading role in the film Morning Glory. However, this would just be the first Oscar out of four. Hepburn started her career after college as she acted in plays and Broadway performances in New York (Katharine Hepburn). From there she never looked back and became one of the most successful actresses having won the most Oscars as an actor ever.
After her first win she continued acting and finally won another Oscar for leading actress in 1968’s Guess Who’s Coming for Dinner. The next year Hepburn once again won an Oscar in the same category for her role in The Lion in Winter. Finally, in 1982 at the age of 75, she won for her performance in On Golden Pond (Who has won the most Oscars?). Katharine Hepburn made history in her life and it stands till this day with a total of four Academy Award wins and twelve nominations.
Although Hepburn is the only actor to win four Academy Awards, there are a few who have claimed the position of winning three. This includes actors such as Ingrid Bergman, Jack Nicholson, and Meryl Streep (Actors With the Most Oscar Wins). However, one of the most recent actors to this position is Daniel Day-Lewis.
Daniel Day-Lewis won an Oscar for his leading role in 2012’s Lincoln. Before that he was already an award-winning actor, having won two other Oscars in the same category. He started acting at the young age of 13 and since then has starred in many successful films. Besides Lincoln, Day-Lewis has won an Oscar for his role in My Left Foot and There Will be Blood (Daniel Day-Lewis). In 2017 Daniel Day-Lewis starred in his last film and retired at the age of 60.
These amazing actors have made history and continue to leave behind inspiring legacies to inspire the next generation of award winning actors.
