A movie that’ll win your heart
DVD Review – The Princess Bride
The Princess Bride is a tale of fantasy and romance that has entertained audiences for more than 30 years. However, its comedic satire and “inconceivable” nature are what have won the hearts of viewers of all ages.
Surprisingly, The Princess Bride was not an initial success as upon its 1987 release it performed poorly in the box offices. Even before its production director, Rob Reiner, faced many challenges while trying to pitch the film’s idea. However, with persistence Reiner was able to receive funding and achieve his goal of creating a film based on his favorite novel (“The Princess Bride” Turns 30).
The film took a unique and comedic approach as it poked fun at traditional fairy tales and made them its own. As a grandfather recites a story to his grandson, we are transported to a world of fantasy where a young maiden, Buttercup, and her farming companion, Westley, reside. The tale takes several twists and turns as the two-run into pirates, bandits, and princes as they try to reunite their love for one another (The Princess Bride).
The Princess Bride evolved into a cult classic as it moved to home video and DVD and since then its popularity has continued to grow. Most moviegoers know the famous lines from the swordsman Inigo Montoya or the romantic “As you wish” line from Westley. Most viewers can agree that the film’s quirky comedy and lovable characters make the story so enjoyable.
So if you’re looking for a heartfelt yet hilarious movie try The Princess Bride and learn what all the buzz is about!
